The Match Race Super League has returned to Switzerland after a break of several years. Match Race Switzerland is now an event in the Super League as the types of Match Race Germany, the Oakcliff International Match Race in the United States or the Internationaux de France.
The Match Race Super League is gradually in vogue again especially with the return to monohulls in America’s Cup. The league represents what a large number of sailors want: boat against boat duels. The Swiss Sailing League Association relaunched the match race with a number of high calibre sailors expected from seven countries.
The Global Series would see sailors compete in 17 events across four continents. As the Swiss Sailing League Association partners Match Race Super League, Switzerland is now a host city.
The co-founder of Match Race Super League Eberhard Maag is excited to welcome the event to Switzerland. He said the country had a lot of tradition in match racing so they were willing to grow the brand there as they share the same visions.
The Sports Director of Match Race Germany will be hoping to begin his title defence in Switzerland after winning the inaugural season of Match Race Super League. Their Swiss contingent will battle top teams like Russia, and the Estonian team that are also favourites.
At the event in Locarno, the Swiss and Italian women’s Match Racing and teams would also be competing. There is even a rule to favour regional and small teams to partake in the race. Germany’s Felix Schrimper from Innotio Match Race Team is set to gain from this.
Young teams also have a shot to get a starting role in Match Race Switzerland with the Swiss Grand Prix and Swiss Match Racing Series. Albert Riele Swiss Team’s Eric Monnin made it through this means. In all there are 12 competitors for Match Race Switzerland now.
